Joelle Jacobsen, RD (T)
From an early age Joelle knew she wanted to work as a health care professional. While obtaining a degree in Biomedical Science at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, Joelle competed with the NCAA Division I women’s softball team. It was during this time that she developed an interest in how nutrition could enhance her athletic and academic performance. After moving back to western Canada, she decided to pursue a career in dietetics at the University of British Columbia Vancouver.
Joelle’s passion lies in guiding her patients in establishing healthy relationships with food. Her interests within nutrition include child and family feeding, performance based nutrition, and the joy of food.
As a dietitian, Joelle uses the best available evidence paired with an understanding of her client’s values when determining recommendations and guidance. She understands the right balance of foods that is essential to nourish the mind and body while providing a significant source of connection and pleasure in our lives. She believes every diet should include soulful foods that are chosen for taste and enjoyment rather than health purposes.
Originally from Alberta, Joelle grew up in New Jersey before moving to Connecticut in 2011 for university. After moving back to Calgary and spending her winters at Lake Louise, Joelle moved to Vancouver for school and then to Kelowna in 2016 for her internship. She is a frequent traveler visiting family and friends in various parts of North America as well as exploring other world countries such as Nicaragua, Thailand, and Indonesia. She is excited to settle in Kelowna to start her practice within Active Care Health’s unique integrated clinic setting.
